This is ridiculous
« on: 05/23/12 22:51 UTC »
All week we have had strong daytime winds and fairly warm temps. The air is dust dry, but storms are fired up in the west part of the state moving north. They say we may get rain tonight or tomorrow, but with this dry air, who knows.  Just a while ago I went out on the front porch to enjoy a glass of iced tea when a car turned the corner and proceded up the street and past our house when the neighbors garbage caddy blew over and all the newspaper in it blew out. That car went by the house at at least 30 mph and the newspaper from the trash can passed the car! And that's just blowing, not gusting.  Tomorrow they predict a cold front will come rolling on thru, then we'll get these stiff winds out of the northwest for three days. What I'd give to have to use a fan to move the air a little.

Move to Oklahoma . You will be able to use your fan one day , heater the next air conditioner the next then your boat to get out of your yard and the tornadoes will help you move from town to town free of charge .

I was fishing a bass tournament on the Mississippi River last night in that gale...and it was scary! White caps, big waves....it was blowing straight up the river...so the wind pushing against the current gave us some pretty good standing waves!

Tough night for boat control! I found a couple semi protected areas along the main channel that were producing smallmouth, but most were under the limit size 14". I did manage "biggest smallmouth" with a massive 2.1 lber!!!! :-[

The guys that braved the river crossing and got back into the backwaters (for largemouth) and threw frogs did the best.

And of course...I caught most of my smallmouth on....the MadDad 3xl !

Out of town again for the next couple days....so I get to miss the fun on the river tonight....predictions of 45mph gusts....we only had 35mph last night! :o

I'm talking Minnesota. We have a fence around changeing weather and temperatures. You are making a day to day comparison....those same things happen here in minutes. Come here in the winter and you can see this first hand.

We do get tornados. A couple years ago our local TV station [nBC affiliate] got fixed on a different another company" [CBS affiliate] live camera shot of a series of tornados 90 miles away and forgot to mention the one happening less than 4 blocks away from our TV staion. The warning sirens apparently failed to start when the national weather service hit the button, which is bad, but for this TV station to have all that technology, including doplar radar, and to not notice whats happening in their own back yard is something hard to digest.

My lungs are telling me the humidity is shooting up, the clouds are getting darker and wind is very light right now. We need rain bad.

And Andy, I couldn't begin to imagine being on the big river in that howler we had in the evening yesterday. WOW. With the wind blowing up the pipe on that river things generally are not going to be good.

We have it pretty rough in No. Cal too.  I actually had to get up from the recliner while watching IDOL last night to turn off the A/C.  I was getting chilled.
Until next time.

Hard-core anglers would go to a marine scrap yard and get an aluminum bech seat from a rowboat and prop it up on a pair of concrete blocks on the porch and raise the living room window so as to see the TV from out there. AND, they'd be watching Bill Dance blooper re-runs. A fan running on low on the porch to move the air a bit is also permitted.

Southerly wind of a screaming  2.5 MPH  with a high of  91 - 93 here today.  With no wind; it gets unbearable by 10-ish in an aluminum boat.  Can't touch anything.  You have to throw water on anything you want to sit on as well.  Don't leave the boat seat up or you will have roasted buns   :o  :(.
