INJECTOR HELP, PLZ!!!
« on: 07/14/12 09:31 UTC »
one of my injectors is the large size from Caney Creek, (I have CC's med injector, it shoots great) I haven't able to shoot baits with it (it's smooth, well made, so I'm the one with problem)  it seizes up when I draw in plastic  and I get plugs in the cavity that I'm unable to shoot.  Should i warm it up in the plastic?  I try to purge the air from cylinder b/4 first, but still, no go.  I'm thinking it's not warm enough...

Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Perhaps a step by step process for the injector impaired!!!

Suck up and evacuate your plastic 2-3 times before shooting, also is the injector lubricated? if you can place the injector face down on a flat surface. without the nozzle and press the rod down with one finger gently it is. if not put a few drops of work oil (I use Pam) into the injector and go through the motions lubricating the plunger.

other than that I can't help. hope you get it working.

I bought a cheap griddle from wally world, and pre-heat my injectors on it. It works great!

Thanks guys!!!...it can be very frustrating learning how to do this properly!!!   Everything is, as the Bible says, is learned "by reason of use".

BTW, the med injector is great, though i wish Jason would put twist-lock cap on it like large inj.  Believe folks would pay more for that feature.

Again, thanks to all!!

What is the temperature of your plastic?  It sounds as if it may be a bit to cool for  the first injection.  A little hotter plastic will warm the injector as well and be slower to congeal.

I keep waste-scrap plastic to melt then inject into all molds i intend to inject...with scrap plastic first so it doesn't matter if it yellows.  If you're injecting remelts, you may be injecting not-quite-hot chunks that can plug the cavities.  Also, similar to what Mr. Paul said, if your plastic isn't upto temp, you can get thick liquid plastic, and if this is present, they're cooler and can cool to too-cool-to-move much faster than to-temp plastic.  I lube both injector o-rings with whatever i have close by, either stabilizer or scent/oil.

Pre-heat it and clean it after a few uses with WD40.

What temp are you heating your plastic up to before starting your first batch? Like others have said, it sounds like a re-heat batch that's not thoroughly mixed up. Either way, it sounds like your plastic is not mixed up enough, even if it's a fresh batch.

As for lubricating the injector, the CCM Large injector that I have has never had a drop of anything to lubricate it. I have other injectors that seem to always need scent or worm oil to keep them working smoothly, not the case with Jason's. I think it's because the tolerance is just perfect and I keep it really clean.

I would recommend shooting your first batch a little hotter then normal and see if that helps. Once you get rolling, the injector will be super hot and clogs will be very minimal.

u r right, Jeff...it certainly isn't the injectors fault.
