1.75" Small Fry
« on: 09/13/12 07:55 UTC »
I don't know if this is the place to post this topic.  It seemed like the best fit to me.  The small fry are so easy to make!  I love the fact that when using the laminate plate, it is only half of a runner.  Makes things so much easier.  Another great product from Caney Creek Molds!  Great job Jason!  Here is a pic of what I made last night:

Thanks for looking

Chuck

Nice baits Chuck, do you always dip only over the eyes or do you also dip the whole body? Trying to figure out the effectiveness on the fry, hopefully others like Keith, Jim and Ron will see this and leave input as well. Making the move into the Crappie/Panfish market, just trying to have all my ducks in a row before hand.

Thanks,
Drew

Thanks Drew!  When I make a lure with eyes, I only dip just past the eyes.  I am looking to seal them to the lure.  It also helps that a couple of the lures are swim baits.  My preferred way to rig these is with a swimbait hook.  The dipping  adds a little strength to the nose for the bait keeper screw in.  I just received this mold last night and have not actually used these yet.  I cannot wait though.

Good looking bait Chuck.

My .02 on dipping.. Its great when you do a lamiante. I have some that i didnt dip and when you go to put it on the hook you have a 50/50 change of spliting.. When I dip the laminate the bait holds together much better when you are putting it on the hook.

Only with laminate plate or belly pour and injection do you have that potential split. With the twinjector you won't see that issue.

I like how the dip over gives the bait depth. Hate how it shows my flaws though! Seems like the little bubbles I get are magnified!!!  :'(

Great looking baits! You have the "small ones" down also!!!!

Agreed.. I dont have a splitting issue with my twin injected baits..  Good call on that Jim.

Thanks guys!  They are time consuming to make, but I think they turned out great.  What is the best way to rig these?  I was thinking a #6 hook or a 1/32 oz jighead.  I am also going to use a float for added casting distance.  Thanks again guys!

I've been having very good success drop shot..on the smallest VMC spinshot hook. Bluegills and Crappies love 'em!

I have also been using them on the single hook that comes with the Swedish Pimples size 2 (1"  1/10th oz) just replace the treble and cut off the little plastic flapper and use only the single hook. SUPER effective! Cast them out...and let them flutter down on a tight line. After they hit the bottom...let them sit for a second and give them a slow pull upwards and then flutter down.

I always dip all the way back on the body, Its just what I prefer. Dont know if it makes a difference.

Thanks,
Drew

I use a 1/32 jig with a #6 or #4 Matzou sickle hook.  The #4 size come out just where the back starts to taper to the tail.  This combo produces an overall well proportioned bait.  Bream seem to have little problem inhaling the #4 size and I get less "tear outs" on crappie than the smaller #6.
