Big Bass 27
« on: 10/03/12 08:57 UTC »
The 27th year of the (TPWD) Toyota Share a Lunker began Monday Oct. 1st and runs through April 30th. Any fish caught 13 pounds or more can be entered, (as Jason knows very well). For those who want to track where these big fish are being caught, here is a number that will give you real time info as these fish are certified..TEXT "follow sharelunker" to 40404... Also if you happen to catch one the number to call is (903) 681-0550... And this covers all fish 13lbs + caught in Texas from public or private waters...

Awesome program by TPWD.  Everyone in the program I have met is first class and they really put the fish and conservation first.  If you are ever in Athens it is 100% worth the visit to see their operation.

Thanks for the post.

That beast on the home page of the website was your SAL, wasn't it Jason?  I remember you telling that story a while back.

In Oregon, the record is currently 12lb 1.6oz, so the MINIMUM SAL would put you in the record book out here!   ;D

It is.  I wish I could say it was because I'm such an accomplished angler, but it was truly a blessing from above.

My fondest memory of the whole event is actually when Alex and I had to take her to the marina.  It was windy and the boat was taking a pounding.  All I could hear was his screams so I slowed down to make sure he was okay, only to find out they were screams of excitement from the ride.  He was really digging the boat coming out of the water!

You have to love it brother, I have been in the same situation with my son(11 years old) with an 10 pounder trying to get it to a certified scale, we both would have sworn it was 18 pounds (LOL), cant imagine what my son would have been doing if it was 13.23.... WOW!!!!  and yes sir want to get up to Athens and see it in person, we have a hatchery here at Sam Rayburn, they have gone above and beyond on this thing and it is awesome cant imagine what Athens looks like..

Fishing by far has to be the best past time and sport. I just laugh when I hear some people say there isn't much skill to catching black bass so they obviously hadn't done it lol. Each good fish you catch and outing when you think about it can put you back like it was yesterday even if it was years ago.I also am very passionate about getting the young ones into the sport and hearing of stories like these with guys sharing these moments with their kids that they will never forget!! My dad was never into the fishing so I got a late start but with my oldest daughter that isn't the case and waiting on my youngest to be able to get in on the action lol......its all about the memories!
