" Our sponge bait is just that – a sponge encapsulated inside the plastic bait."

I don't think this is a new idea (i.e. never been done before).   I doubt the patent will be granted.  For a couple hundred dollars anyone can apply for a patent and say patent pending.

yep, that's true (about the patent). Provisional patents are the start and not much money, takes lot of $ and time to bring it to fruition. I have seen it in catfish bait, don't know that I have seen it in mass produced plastics.

and even you'll have to admit it has worked for spongebob....and patrick!

Now that's something I would like to have the legal rights to!

Thanks -  floridagrimp -  It is always interesting to see a new approach.
The same basic result can be accomplished with sticky compounds ( smelly jelly for instance ) or continued application of less adhesive scents.  I noticed the only scent that they mentioned was crawfish.  The Berkley line of baits comes to mind first  as being touted to accomplish the same result; via a different process.  Many companies are impregnating their plastic baits with some form of "magic juice" cooked right in.

I understand the "cooked right in" approach, but just not a believer in it, seems the heat would diminish the effect of scent in cased in plastic...topical approach (spray, gel, et al) I get.

Then there's my take, take your fav baits, add scent, worm oil...blend thoroughly, then drink...wait 5-10 minutes by running in place, opening up sweat glands, then quickly jump off end of pier w/net. snorkel/fins optional. If u get bit, it's good!!

I am a big believer in make your bait without scent; then put your scent on after you put the bait on your hook.  This allows versatility in matching the scent to what they want at the time, and allows "fresh" scent to be used.  So called rough fish have taught me a lot about the use of scent / smell.  It is interesting, and educational, to see how these "trash fish" will change their feeding choice from day to day; and even within the day.  The same seems to apply to crappie and bream as well; especially in colder water.

so true, shrimp is a pretty safe bet for flounder, redfish, trout...sometimes (not often) they won't touch it, they want a pinfish under a float or with reds/flounder, a bull minnow...maybe I'll develop a new scent.."buffet"...or maybe "salad bar"....mixture of all the above, plus crab!!!

Read the SK patent, it is very specific as to dimensions.

I'm sure you could do the same with foam, but why spend the money if all someone has to do is make it a little bigger or smaller?
