Swim baits.
« on: 05/27/13 14:20 UTC »
Ok went to the family 15 acre lake today.  And found them killin the smokin shad baits I got from Jason in the last swap.
My question is what kinda poles and line do you guys use with swim baits.  I had it tied on my lite rod. I use for cranks. And that seemed to soft.  So I went to my med heavy.  Seem maybe to stuff. (My other rods were in my bass boat we have a pontoon on the lake so I just grabbed some stuff).  I'm thinking my med carrot stick rod with Fluro would be perfect.

I don't know if fluro is necessary.  I like a little slower longer rod with a fair amount of backbone; with mono.  Unless you are throwing around a good bit of cover.  I still have not found a fluro that will cast as well as a good mono.

I'm all about the fluro. It has very little stretch and will give you a better hook up. Plus better feel to feel the strikes. Your missing strikes if your fishing mono. I also like the carrot sticks. I have several of them and for the money I think a great rod.

I use a 6.3:1 & 7.0:1 gear reels spooled with atleast 15lb seguar invizx.for the rod i use a dobyns 766 flip. the line size i use is for the size fish thats in my lake  & the hevier rod is so i can throw them along laydowns & docks & be able to keep them out of the danger zone.. as far as reels i use the lower gear when i need to slow down but still want to be able to take up line quick
