 Fishing in the wind drives me crazy   Anyone have tips for fishing in the wind? What sort of fishing techniques do you prefer.

For Bass, some say "the wind is your friend". Active bass will tend to get on the windy banks and feed. The wind blows bait into that bank and the bass take advantage of that. I've had luck on all the common baits but anything you can stay in contact with in the wind will be good. Cranks, spinnerbait, jerk bait, or swim jig. I know others will chime in too.

  Just got off the water with 22 mph winds. Had a great day. I posted my biggest one. When windy I jump up to a 3/4 oz spinnerbait with big blades and 5/8 oz jigs this time of year. The heavy weights help control the cast and feel of the bait. The fish were in 2 to 4 foot of water with deep water near by. Very typical for this time of year. They're moving up to get warm when the sun was out. One advantage I have in the wind is I do have power poles. They are way over priced and a pain getting in and out of my garage but they are the real deal.

  Wind makes current, current pushes bait. The ocean has it own currents and tides and so does rivers and river lakes when they open the locks. But in many lakes or lakes when the locks are closed what makes the current is the wind. One of my favorite lakes is Lake of the Woods. Large body of water with many many islands. When it's windy the islands that are close to each other will look like rivers flowing between them because of the current. The fish will always set up on the down wind side to catch bait that flows by. I think even though you have to fight the wind it makes the fish more predictable and easier to catch.

I always looked to get out of the wind on windy days. Fishing seemed to be lukewarm on those days. Then someone showed me the light. I'm only speaking from experience now. I know it's hard fishing those windy banks but believe me, it can be good.

Truth. Nice lake, ain't it Lamar? I see the same thing on Lake Superior. Lake Superior has tides just like saltwater, just not as pronounced.

Personally I don't care for wind while I am fishing unless it is of a direction that is making the fishing easier. I'll usually tolerate it until it makes boat control more work that I want.

Speaking of wind....we're supposed to get a howler tonight with winds in the 45 mph range and, what else, snow.
