Follow CCM at the McDonalds Tournament...
« on: 09/22/11 09:13 UTC »
We are fishing the McDonalds tournament this weekend.  We are headed over to register this A.M..  Will do a little pre-fishing this afternoon, and then plan to fish the tournament Friday - Sunday.

A little background on fishing Lake Fork.  Fork is a slot lake which means you can keep anything under 16in (normally around 2.5lbs), or over 24in (normally 9lbs+).

We are aiming on the high side and have made up a nice selection of all our "big Bass" baits.  Hopefully this will produce what we are looking for.  I don't think we will catch a lot of fish, but hopefully we will catch the right fish.

We will have our video camera with us and hope to record some of the action and post it each day.

Wish us luck!

Tight lines and hopefully tattered thumbs!!!

Day 1 results for us were not what we were looking for.  Definitely didn't have the big girls in our sight.  All of our fish and bites came first thing - all off the 4.5" Big Foot - Toad.  The rest of the day was dead - except a stick Bass.  Hopefully tomorrow will be better.  No video today - wasn't really the time or fish.

Here are a few pics.

As a side note, I was really happy with how the Toad performed on top.  This was really the first chance where there was half a top water bite to really run it through it's paces.  It did well.  I flipped it and swam it some this afternoon - but it did like everything else we tried - nothing.

I'll post again tomorrow how day 2 goes.

Tight lines and scuffed (not tattered) Thumbs!

Day 2 Report

We did better today, but were still an inch short...  Here is our big one for the day.  She was a super healthy, nice fat fish.  She actually weighed more than a couple that were over 24".

The Toad was still the best producer first thing.  The fish in the pic above was caught on a Black Mud Bug with Blue Claw tips and a black and blue jig.  The other top producer was the Cherry Picker in black and blue as well.

Tight lines AND Tatter Thumbs!!!

I don't know how many anglers are entered this year, last year it was close to 3,000.  Pretty tough conditions and competition...

We'll, we got a late start, and ended early.  The wind was blowing like crazy and we were tired.  We had one fish that was close to being able to be weighed in, 16 1/8" long.  Wasn't worth a ticket to see if our ruler was the same as his (under 16" or over 24" are legal).

Overall the weather was great and we had a good time!
