Thanks for all the inputs, I definitely hear you guys on taking advice from everyone and then creating your own way, thats the beauty of this hobby/business!

This gizmo I have shown before and is slicker than slick for cleaning eyes. The jig shown is a 5/16 and I just popped the paint from the eye using this tool. I got a bunch of these while working a show in St.Cloud, MN a couple years back and now have one in every bait pail  I carry.

I have messed around with a few tools, not this one specifically but would something like this or the little red handle eye buster leave sharp edges that injure knots and fishing line?

Also another possible technique, I tried a soldering gun, unfortunately the tip is too thick but maybe some brands have a skinny enough tip to poke through the eye, that seems like it would come out very clean.  Just a thought if anyone wants to go experiment!

Alreadt did that experiment and it works like a champ.  I have an old Weller soldering iron that uses a set screw to hold the copper tip. I cut some 10 gage wire into 2" pieces and set up my drill press and drilled a 1/32 hole in the end o f them. I them forced an 18 gage finishing nail in the hole.  chucked everything in a hand held electric drill and honed the nail down to fit my hook eyes.

Put it in the soldering iron, plugged it an and it worked very well. but lesson learned. Take the time to PC them without getting PC in the eyes
Wishing y'all tight lines and bent wriggling rods. Happy Fishing!

With the powder coats especially you need to be certain to get all of the paint removed because any left can have very sharp edges. Even braids rubbing upon or sliding over those edges can cut fairly easiy.

I have a pair of those forceps that Tom suggested and they work great. One big advantage is that when you put the tips in the eye you can rotate the jig and you will not get any sharp spots.

Note: The finger holes are very small....but well worth the $$.

The finger holes are definitely not made for anyone with some testosterone in their blood, that's for sure.
