Injector Issues..maybe resolved

There was a discussion earlier about bits of plastic being left inside the barrel wall of the injector after a few uses. I replaced the original o'ring with one from NAPA Auto. They matched the size. The only difference is the NAPA o'ring has a shiny finish and the original didn't. I don't know if the shiny finish (guessing it's a teflon coating) is helping or the o'ring needed replacing (wasn't that old). But even with the bits of plastic left behind, the injector pushes with minimal effort, before I almost had to stand on the darn thing.. I'll let everyone know if the o'ring does something odd later on, like breaking down from the heat..

Rick, Thanks for sharing that bit of info. I have two, soon to be three injectors and one you have to stand on, the other allows seepage past the O'ring. Napa here I come!

Here I just got this info from BT.  Original O'ring..Inside diameter .984 and Outside Diameter 1.262 They didn't specify unit of measure...

NAPA Part # 727-2214 is what was sold to me. 0.83 cents each.

Thanks!  Nice detective work!  All of my injectors, including my Twin have the issue- and have had the issue since day one.  My temps are all good, and it does it whether the injector is cold or hot.  Napa, here I come!

I recently dida tear down on my CCM injector and there was alot of junk in there. I usually add a drop of worm oil if it sticks at all and that fixes it.

Unfortunately, I already had a few BT injectors before I found Jason so I couldn't compare the CCM vs. BT- I can say 1oo% I do get residue behind the plunger consistently.  I typically oil whenever my injectors start to feel too much resistance, but even so, I believe the O-rings are the culprit this time.  It's a pain for me not because of resistance, but the need to clean all the color out when switching to a new color so there's no color contamination.

Yes, the BT injectors all have the same problem.  I don't know if Jason's does or not as I had BT injectors before I got aquainted with Jason and this site.

I too will be going to the auto supply store....(O'riellys here no NAPA) to get new o rings.

But a small tip I figured out that seems to help.....after the plastic cools just a little (a minute -minute 1/2) I twist the end and inject out onto the bench and let the plunger come all the way out.  Do this with the injector pointing down and most of the plastic that gets around the oring will come out or be right on the end of the barrel.  Simply take your gloved hand (remember safety first!) and you can quickly wipe it clean and reassemble.  You will have to wipe up in the barrel about an inch or less to clean the booger out of there as well....that is where you get the left behind boogers in your barrel is not taking this extra step to clean that area when cleaning the injector (or has been what has happened for me).

After starting to do it this way I have not had to completely break down my injector after 2-3 cycles of molds to clean all the boogers out so I could inject.  Helps me in my shop anyway.


But, if the orings solve the problem that is the cats meow!  Thanks for sharing!

I have two of Jason's 4 oz and another on the way. I did some reading on these on CCM Sit and a person has to use conditioner ( Worm Oil, WD-40 ) to clean it periodicity. I found that out today when I was messin with my swim shad mold. By the way Jason that mold is AWESOME! I am making some incredible laminates with it. As soon as I get my GoPro Hero2 going, I'll take some HD pics and post them.

I still have some plastic getting behind the new ring, but still injecting smoothly. I do worry about cleaning when changing colors too.

Here is something that I learned, about every 10 to 20 injections, pop the nozzle off, pull the plug out, squirt down the tube with WD-40, work it back and forth, then wipe the plunger off with a microfiber rag, put your nozzle back on and continue. I started doing that and what an amazing difference!

Plus WD-40 is a fish attractant so your are doing 2 things with one deal!!!!
