Time to Catch some Muskie

Now that the ice is off its the to chase some muskie. I've boated 7 in the last two days.

Awesome fish. I get a few when wading for eye's every year and more in the summer. Ha by the way we're do you live?

I live in central Illinois. I just use my bass tackle for them. Makes it a little more interesting. I usually get a few later on bass fishing.

I use 3/8 to 1 1/2 oz. rod that I use for cranks and spinner bait's. I make Down sized buck tail and use 3/8 spinner bait's  a lot for musky. In Wisconsin everyone throws big stuff and you can catch a lot on bass size stuff. Wading in the spring and fall you get them on a 10 husky jerk, small storm twitch stick,ands pointer 78 sp., Berkeley flicker minnow. Lost a 50 + that  inhale a flicker minnow last spring.

WW ya I seem to catch more on bass tackle than the guys around me throwing purpose made stuff. 3" lipless is my favorite.

We legally cannot fish for "skis" from December until May... accidents can happen, but a fella does not want to make this an obvious pursuit during this time of the year. 

Out of curiosity, what is your typical early season pattern for them where you fish?

Ancient Cajun Secret - Spike-it Blade Dip, Black.  Put a bunch of black spots on dat Freshwater Barracuda, now it looks like a Bass to dem Wardens.  Fish Fry tonight!

Efish I'm just burning a lipless in 4.5 foot around pad stems which is the deep part of the lake I'm on goes up to a 2.5 foot flat. Seems to work for me. Don't know what the guys are using who actually use muskie tackle.

Right on... I was wondering how shallow they are/were, if they were in a pre-spawn swim, but it doesn't sound like it.  Up here, we would have trouble keeping fish over winter in a lake as shallow as it sounds yours is.
