Nice that is a great idea.  I hope you dont mind me trying your idea. I am going to try the chub grub brass pin idea just trying to figure out the best way to cut the rod.

This forum is all about sharing information/techniques... have a good time with it.  (FYI: I cut my brass rods with lineman's pliers and then file the corners smooth.)

I can't remember who, but someone here tried aluminum knitting needles as the core rod stock and had very good luck with them.
After reading that suggestion I picked up some at WM.
Cut to size with dremal.
Pointy end extended out from the inlet.\
Made putting a glow tail on a zipper gobi a piece of cake.
