Three new color shifting pearls
« on: 03/12/18 14:56 UTC »

The picture sucks at showing what these actually do so I'll describe the colors that are in each. Both baits have the same color of belly. It shifts from yellow to green to purple then blue.  The bait at the top goes thru a color shift of green to gold to purple then blue and is a real eye catcher as the bait gets turned in different lights. The bottom bait's back color is called "immortal" and it goes thru 5 transitions starting with maroon to purple to blue to orange then gold. This one is a busy color in good light and in this picture is between the maroon and purple but there's even a tiny bit of the orange that's showing about 1/3 of the way forward and slightly off the lateral line.

Uncanny colors. I used a bright orange pearl to put the gill smears on the front of each. I've had these guys in the garage with the door open so I could watch them in shaded light, they've been in strong shade and in bright sunlight and they just flat out perform a color dance. As soon as my hard bait blanks arrive I want to spray these colors. This color shift stuff just keeps getting better and better.

Here's a tip regarding the use of these shifting pigments....use them on a bait with some texture. Mada is on the right track in using that paddletail bit with the casting marks on it. My absolute favorite bait to dress up with the crazy pigments is the 2 3/4 Fat Fork bait because of the machine markings that injecting picks up so nice. These pigments rely on light to create the shifting of the colors and these machine marks are the epitome of reflection. No scale netting is needed to get a realistic appearance to the baits as the colors lighten and darken along the ridges on the bait's surface. It is just plain uncanny.

With the sun coming in a different window and at a lower level in the sky right now the same two baits shown above are just nuts with blues and greens and gold banded thru each of them, and each its own unique color combo because the back colors are totally different. The top bait in the picture doesn't show a hint a green as seen in the picture except where the machine marks change the light. And that bottom bait with the purple back is now orange and gold.

I'm a self-professed color nut and this changeable pigment stuff is keeping me well entertained. I have another order in the making so the collection will further expand. lol

My Daughter bought me a large assortment of pearls and color shifting pearls and they are amazing.

https://www.dickblick.com/products/jacquard-pearl-ex-pigment-sets/

They do different things on different base colors (molded color).

Do you have any favorite base colors? Black seems to be a good one, as well as white.

i've got some killer drop shot baits now!

Black gives the most dramatic effects when brushed on dry. I find that the same colors on a dead clear plastic to a slightly pearl plastic will yield some super natural looking baits. I pretty much stay with these two base colors. I'm not a fan of white so I don't fiddle with any pearls on that. The black base color gets you the eye poppers.

Pearl-ex has a couple shifting colors in their selection. They make some very nice baits and are easy to use too. A 12 color set will last years for the average guy brushing the pigments. I am using the 5 gram samplers from www.didspadecom in the fine particle color shifting series. These cost like $5.80 for the sample package per color and I can't say that I can notice having used any yet. And I play a lot. Of course the site offers some color shifting stuff at $280.00 or more for 25 grams too but my meager eyesight can't tell much difference between the cheap and pricey. If you check this site out be sure to take a gander at the glitters. They are next on my list too....at least the colors I haven't gotten already.

Wow great job!! I love the colors I have the same mold it has worked great on bass in heavy pressured lakes. I caught several 14" and one over 6 pounds. But my colors are all very simple.
Continue the great work and thanks for sharing.
