Too much rain....
« on: 09/02/18 22:45 UTC »
....for many parts of the Midwest. Our ten o'clock news tonight showed, none-other than, Denver Iowa under water. I sure hope our friends at Do-It have dodged this bullet. I've done major flooding and its a real pile of crap to deal with. In the video footage shown I wasn't able to landmark anything familiar so I haven't a clue how far north in the town the water has gotten Do-It is situated on the north side near the city limits. Hopefully they are high enough.

We had a huge system just miss the Rochester are this morning as it went further south and north central Iowa got pummeled. I know Lines is somewhere south of there and a bit further to the west and I think he maybe missed this shot....hoping he did anyway.

The tv report wasn't too specific on what exactly was flooding in Denver, or near there, so lets keep the company in our thoughts and maybe it won't be as bad as the news reported.

We missed all the very heavy rain. We received a much needed 1/2" to 3/4" here in Southeast Iowa. Our ponds are still in dangerous condition of being too shallow to support the fish this winter when they freeze up. Weird weather floods and droughts just a few miles apart.

Nearly 4" of rain in a couple hours here. And to add to the rain a neighborhood less than a half mile from me got hit  by very high winds, knocking trees down all over the place. I have never seen so many trees come down in such a localized area. I got lucky with just a wet basement.

Everyone stay safe. We are always wet here but with Gordan coming to see us we are expecting 6-8 inches of rain.   >:(

There are a few wet basements, but have a day of reprieve with the sun shining today.  Could be a long week of rain from the Gulf all the way up through the Midwest.

Yes, we are dry here.  The bridge in town was closed over the weekend with water over the road.  There is still standing water in parts of Denver, with more rain to come.

We've gotten 5.05" since 8 this morning. Lots of sirens tonight along with lots of lightning strikes. The creek and river behind us are wayyyyy up right now and we've got about two more hours of this one storm cell to endure. Lots of water in this storm tonight. The kid here in town called and told Carole that he has water in his back yard from a retention pond about four yards behind him and I don't recall him ever having water in his yard from that pond. Tomorrow morning is going to be interesting.
