Core shot issues

Whenever I shoot the core color for a core shot I'm getting the core color squeezing around the outside of the nose of my baits. What am I doing wrong, plastic too hot, too much pressure, should I wait a day or two after making first part of the bait to shoot the core?

How are you getting the hollow for the core? or are you adding the core color into the injection port then quickly injecting the outside color? If you're injecting your outside color using a wire or nail or something to create a hollow for the core, you're not hot enough on the core shot, or injecting too hard or too fast. The other technique I can't help with.

Sounds like an E-core issue... if so, you'll need to use a bigger core pin and/or heat the the core color a bit more to make it flow easier.

molds are; chub grub combo(1 twin tail grub/1 split tail grub), 3.5'' thump grub, ES ripper and swim shad. Pins are .125 brass. I'll try some scrap plastic tomorrow heating the core plastic a bit hotter than I have been.

It'll help a lot to add some stabilizer to the core plastic so it can tolerate the extra heat. I'd slow down the injection rate after getting the core plastic to the 360-365 degree range. Most all of the baits mentioned should take kindly to a 1/8" pin and the subsequent injection. Having the core color end up running under the previous injection suggests too much injection pressure or too fast  or too cool of plastic. Any or all of these could be factors.

I'm thinking the plastic for the core color is too hot, and the injection speed is too fast. It sounds like it is softening the nose of the body enough to allow the core plastic to flow around it. I would try around 325° for the core plastic with a bit slower injection speed. Apply liberal amounts of worm oil to your core pins when shooting the bodies. Hope this helps Nails.

I also agree with Lines and ctom about slowing down the injection speed as well because too much pressure against the nose will push it back (creating a small gap that gets filled with the core color as you've been experiencing)
