look deep into the crystal....jerkbait?
« on: 02/03/21 14:43 UTC »

Schooling bass in my area absolutely blow these up, and I've had quite a bit of fun catching them.
I noticed that the bass were chasing minnows that were nearly see-through and were even slashing at water movement.

This is my very first purpose-made bait creation, specifically created to target bass chasing ghost minnow type bait.

These are great!  How are you rigging them?

Thanks for sharing.

1) Tex-posed weightless & fished at surface or sub-surface (quick fleeing baitfish or a stunned/dying baitfish)
2) screw lock deep into nose, dropshot/waky hook through nose and screw lock (weightless) - open water near grass lines to imitate dying baitfish
3) mojo style (finesse Carolina rig)
4) dropshot in clear water

Good stuff!

The smallmouth where I fish love these baits but the delivery is always a tough one when they are deeper.  Shallow I have no problem and will throw weightless but when they are suspended and schooling I battle getting to that depth while sustaining suspension or the weightless action that I can get with a hard jerkbait.

Nice baits.  I'd fish that color in clear water all day.

Really like the subtle glitter colors in the clear bait.

Nice looking baits for sure.

There are times where I fish clear (primarily topwater and some jerk) baits on schooling fish as well because they just seem to generate more strikes/hook-ups than any other color, including chrome.

Use the smallest belly weighted screw lock hook you can find and see if that doesn't help you reach those deeper fish.  I've used them to reach those suspended fish that are feeding that won't eat a swimbait or other lures with pretty good success.
