titanium wire leader
« on: 06/09/21 20:03 UTC »
Anyone use this tyable wire material in the 10-15 pound test range while bassing in northern infested waters? I'm currently using 8/30 PowerPro and pike cut this like a knife thru warm butter. A buddy and I were jabbering on the way home yesterday after donating a half dozen lures to the toothy regime. Just curious how much the wire will interfere with frogs [Spros no less]and Rippers.

Maybe 20 pike yesterday along with 3 very nice buckets in the 4-6 pound range. And another mega puppy fish for me. We don't want to miss out on the bass coming back into this area after spawning but spending half of our time re-tying is getting old. I had a bag of 11 pro-blue/red hi lite belly 4" Rippers when  we started and it took about an hour to reduce that count to zippo. I donated about $20.00 worth of Spro Frogs to the toothy cause too. Its getting a bit tiresome and if bas will still play with baits on a light titanium leader I'll make the purchase.

You might just want to run a fluro leader off the braid. Fluro is pretty abrasion resistant, and when the fluro gets nicked up it doesn’t loose all its strength like braid does.

Did the 30 pound fluoro trick and the pike were not the least bit dissuaded by it. These are large pike. We see the huge surge in the water before the hit and its instant clip job. Its like a submarine is charging the lure cuts the line line its nothing. We had one of these big suckers clear the water at the hit and we guessed somewhere in the 42" range. Most of the time the strike is simply a charge from six or 8 feet away from where the lure lands with that huge bulge in the water that never stops after hitting.

The titanium wire will work. Go to www.youtube  Todays angler--  Micro Baits for Spring Muskies.  Lee shows how he makes the leaders, everything you need.  It happens around 10 minutes into the video.

I have used the "Knot 2 Kinky" for some time, yes it's bomb proof especially with a frog.
It is easy to tie or crimp.
It will kink if it gets bent tight enough.
It's a bit weird as it does stretch a bit and makes a strange sound.

My buddy has used the tyable titanium leaders for years and he loves the stuff for saving lures when fishing among the razormouths... I personally have not used it as I either switch to northern friendly tackle or some area(s) with less interference.
