Fall Small (21)
« on: 10/26/21 05:32 UTC »
Been a tough fall for fishing so far in my area. High, dirty, warm water has turned the fish off. The last few nights have been much cooler so hopefully things will get back to normal.

Caught this 18 incher on a 4'' chub grub. High winds made this outing an adventure.

Found some clean water on this shallow flat and was able to catch a mess of small largemouth.

Rain and more rain, caught this one on a football jig with an I-craw trailer.

I love catching fall smallies. We're like you and finally getting cooler but now we're not getting sunny days. I like the cooler water with the afternoon sun. It pulls the shad up on the flats and normally it's game on.

Looks like it was a wet proposition D. Nice smallies.

I dealt with wind this morning and it wasn't fun. I did get one nice large mouth, about 5 pounds, on a crappie jig. Crappies hit until it got to be full light out then as huge mat of duckweed blew into my little piece of heaven and messed things up real nice.

Got out yesterday, water was the highest I remember it this time of year.  Only managed to catch one smallmouth on a shad rap.

Found some largemouth willing to play. All caught on a ripper.

Nice fish CM. The small waters I fish don't produce 50 fish days (bass), 20 is a super day for me :)

I wouldn't say we were on big water.  The lake was about 5000 acres.  That's a large lake for Wisconsin but small when compared to other states large reservoirs.  Come on up and lets go fishing. Most were caught on shaky heads or wacky hooks that we poured.  The lakes will be hard soon here, gonna be a long winter.

5000 acres is pretty good size. We have 4-5 lakes bigger in Michigan . ( not including the great lakes ) Most I fish are less than 1000 by far .

Nice catches DF. I've never caught a small mouth bass. Maybe I will since I moved to Alabama. There are some in the rivers and streams here.

I'm in south central MI Bass Boys. Same deal, 400-1000 acre lakes everywhere.

I still remember my first one. My grandmother an avid fisherman was very ill, after seeing her in the hospital I stopped at a lake I never fish. I was feeling pretty sad and just chucked a little rapala split minnow as far as I could and let it sit there. After gathering myself up a bit I started reel my bait and nothing, it was stuck. So I started tugging and swearing but it was a fish and not a snag. Hauled in a beautiful smallmouth after an exciting fight. While I was releasing it back into the water all I could think about is how mad my grandma would be that I didn't keep it and eat it.

Good story. The memories of your grandma are forever with you because of that fish.

My oldest son now 30 just moved to the White Lake area ( North of Detroit ).  He says there are a lot of lakes down there. I have been there only 1 time so far , this spring we will be hitting a few a those lakes. I live in the middle of the mitten . So it's a drive just to get to his house.
