Pleasantly surprised
« on: 02/01/24 14:01 UTC »
I thought I would post this here in case it would help someone else.  Over the years I have bought several things from overseas.  I have never been disappointed other than it always takes 30 days or better to get the order.  With that in mind, I figured I would order my new reel sooner than later so on Saturday, Jan 27th, I ordered a New Abu Garcia Zenon 2000S spinning reel from Digitaka in Japan.  This is Sunday in Japan so I didnt expect to even get an email from them for a couple of days.  That night I got an email from Fed ex telling me they received the notification and gave me a tracking #.  To make a long story short I got the reel today.  It takes longer than that for me to get an order from Bass Pro and I only live 40 miles from the store,  Pretty happy guy here,
I find it incredible that I have to explain to a grown American citizen that taking a knee during the National Anthem is disrespectful.

I was just looking at those the other night. Congratulations olsarge. If possible, it would be great to get a review from a known owner. Hope you love the reel!

That's awesome! Please report on how that reel treats you! I've heard that some of the for Japan reels are better than what is for the US market.

I've only purchased some lures from Japan once and they arrived in what I thought was reasonable amount of time.  I have sent a package to Japan too, to a fellow in our military there, and it arrived in less than 2 weeks. I had sent a buddy of mine who lived in S Korea and was an avid bass angler, and that took less than 3 weeks. Most of the extra time is getting through Customs on both ends.

I've also bought some things from China, and some jig molds from Ukraine and they all arrived usually within 30 days.   ;D

I had one small packages from China take about 6 weeks once, but that's been an exception. That was some synthetic hair I had purchased.

The last mold I had bought from Ukraine, was small and it arrived in about 2 weeks, which I thought was real good.

I will post a review once I get it lined up  May just throw some 4lb fire line on it that I have laying around for starters until I can find the 3 lb nanobraid that I am wanting;  I will say this, that sucker is the lightest reel I have ever had in hand.  I also really like the idea of a shallow spool.

So why order out of Japan when you're just down the road from Bass Pro ?

Because the only way to get the shallow spool configuration (and sometimes other configurations) is to buy through a jdm  distributor.  Another thing is when you log onto the website you can figure out the Yen/Dollar exchange rate and actually get the item considerable cheaper that way.  The thing that throws a wrench in the system though as that things disappear at a rapid rate so if they have in stock what you want you better get it cuz it wont be there tomorrow
