Swim Shad report
« on: 06/25/12 10:40 UTC »
Well I can't give a report on the 1.75 croaker but I sure can on the swim shad . I sent some watermelon /red flake and some orange/chart glow to a buddy of mine in N. M. . This weekend he caught forty walleye keepers , 2 smallie and a 3lb cat on them . Needless to say he was hopping up and down . This fellow tests all my baits . Looks like I better make him some more before he has a heart attack . Only sent him 3 each and he wore them plumb out .

Was that the 3.5 or the 4.5 swim shad?

I've been doing really well with the 3.5" swim shad for both Walleyes and Smallmouth.  I've been hand pouring the belly in silver smoke (with just a drop or so of black to darken it up a bit) and the top in CC Green and Green smoke for that "minnow look". I use a little bit of silver flake in the bottom...and a small amount of large black flake on the top.

I have both...but the 4.5" is a LOT bigger than the 3.5"...more of a largemouth, Northern Pike, BIG walleye sort of bait.

The 3.5" is also catching some nice White Bass (the 4.5 would be to big).-

Due to the river being so high I've been trolling the 3.5 on a 1oz or  2oz bottom bouncer with 12lb fluorocarbon leader Texas rigged (they smack it so hard you don't have to worry about setting the hook!!!).

I'm going to try and troll them using a umbrella rig (we can rig only 2 baits).. tonight...but it seems like a really good way of loosing two baits at once!!!

Both sent him a set each . started with 3.5 used them went to the 4.5 . no change in hits . He fishes every lake down there . He was jabbering so fast I forgot to ask which one . Every time he catches fish on a new lure I have to wait a few days for him to settle before I can ask a logical string of questions .

Naw he just caught 2 . I  put one on a weighted worm hook and a buzz bait attachment . Bass have been smacking it pretty good around shad and cover . Wish I could show something to brag about but a really good fish is few and far between in these parts .
