Dimensions on the MD Chunk?
« on: 07/22/12 16:04 UTC »
Trying to figure out if the chunk or the 3" MD Craw would be my best bet for a trailer. I typically pitch a 3/8th oz. Strike King Bitsy Flip Jig, and have been using a 3.25" Craw mold from another manufacturer.

Thanks in advance,
Coosa

I use the MadDad 3XL...cut back when I use it as a trailer. By itself it's a really good Texas Rig or on a football jig.

I use the same small Strike King swim jigs also for smallmouth and late fall largemouth.

With the MD 3 XL being a slightly longer version for just a little more $ it would seem that it would be the logical choice to me. You can cut or pinch it off to shorten when needed; or fish it full length.  Sort of like a board; you can cut it off; but you can't add length.

Thanks for the input.

I still have a question about the MD Chunk. Which MD Craw (HEAD and CLAWS) is it designed from? On the pics in the store, it looks like it is the head and claws about the size of the head/claws of the 4" MD. Is this correct?

Here is a pic of the craws from left to right:

MD3, MD3 Super Chunk (almost identical to MD3 but the claws are slightly thinner and wider), MD 3XL, MD4, MD5 XC, MD5

Not pictured is the MD Craw Chunk which is modeled off of the MD4.

I would also consider the Mud Bug trailer.  Here is a video of it swimming:

To make the decision easier you could get a sample bag and try them all out before buying the mold.  The Mud Bug also has a claw and tip mold available for it.
