Jason...Having Plastic Problems
« on: 07/28/12 13:04 UTC »
I'm suddenly having problems with my plastic not wanting to cure. My baits are staying sticky and very soft. Two nights ago I poured perfect baits, last night I drawed some more plastic out of my box and am now having this trouble. The box is getting down close to being empty probably have a quart left. The plastic is staying thin all through the heat cycle. Just now I tried shaking the plastic well before I heated it, but the baits still came out soft and sticky then I reheated some old plastic from two nights ago and the baits came out fine. It seems to point to the remaining plastic that I have is suddeny bad. This is my second box of CCM plastic and have very pleased with it. I've done nothing different to my pouring methods, room temps have remained the same.
This really has me stumped. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas as to the nature of my problem???

I had the same problem a month or two ago.  I was at the bottom of the container and started having the same issues you describe.  I remembered something someone said, probably Jason, about turning the box over a couple times when you got down towards the bottom.  I tried that and it fixed the problem for me.
Until next time.

Most likely, you're not mixing it well enough. Shake it really well or stir it and your problem should go away.

You can try mixing it but if you haven't rotated it as you've used it there is a chance you've pulled most of the pvc out. It's basically the opposite of a plastic that hard packs.

If mixing it doesn't work you can still use it, but you will need to mix it with good plastic (you may be trying to work with something between plastic and softener).

I'm not at the shop but if you need me to call you just shoot me a pm with your number.

OK. I haven't been mixing my plastic so guess the problem is my fault. Will get an order in for new plastic and mix the old with the new. Thanks for the quick reply.

Might be harder to do with the 2 1/2 gallon boxs. I have the one gallon ones, when I am finished pouring turn them over and store them upside down with the nozzle turned up.

Don't shake bubbles into your plastic!!! Slowly turn the box around to mix. I try to remember to turn my box ...spout up...after I pour....and sometimes store it on it's side....and I've never had any issues.
