I got a good hands-on look at this head the other day and I am going to have the mold soon. One of the most popular head designs used along the Mississippi River between Minnesota and Wisconsin is a head very, very similar to this one. I see this as a super head in any moving water situation but even our lake anglers are throwing these now when plastics are being fished. In moving water the design cuts current well without rising up while the size range the mold makes covers all of the weight needs, including those odd-1/16's sizes which seem to be the most popular weights. For the cold-water fishing we see which runs from about the end of October until about mid-April, this head design reigns supreme. Vertical jigging, casting/retrieving, or dragging, this head gets it done.
When I get my mold Mr. Dremel and I are going to have a small session to eliminate the eye sockets and create a smooth head all around...I paint on my eyes so sockets aren't needed.
I have a tough time leaving the ball-head arena for the crappie and sunfish jigs but for walleyes I have toyed with maybe a dozen styles and shapes of heads and this teardrop design just flat out covers all the bases that plastic fishing comes attatched to. I've been buying the plain heads in this tear-drop design for several years and painting them myself, but even the plain, un-painted, heads are spendy. I've had my eye on this particular mold for a couple years now and waited until I could see the head in hand. Having done so sold me. I'm getting this one just for my use.
