Strawberry wine....
« on: 06/25/14 11:34 UTC »
....ain't happening this year.  Our little 8' X 10' strawberry bed took a whopping this spring. First it was cold so long and then cold and wet. Then when we needed the moisture it got dry. Now wet again.  Since returning home from the cabin I have been picking about a 5 quart pail full every other day. Today I got about two quarts and pulled the bird netting off the bed so I can officially say its over for strawberries this year. We got a few bags in the freezer but we've been chowing them down fresh every evening too. We've had strawberry bars, strawberry shortcake, strawberries and anglefood cake, strawberries and ice cream and strawberry smoothies....Carole makes a killer smoothies.

I've thought about increasing the size of the bed but opted against it. I'd have to move some established perennials and Carole says no to that so 8 X 10 is what its going to be.

Raspberries are right around the corner.

The raspberries next to my brother in laws are nice and big and almost ready - I love em on ice cream but I've had to leave that alone!! but they're good by themselves or in a smoothie

Park your boat under those bushes and see what you think about bird poop!
