Powder Coating Vibebrating Blade lures
« on: 10/28/14 18:33 UTC »
I have been PC jigs for quite a while but cannot quite master Blades and am ready to make a big PC cup just for blades, probably 4" Diameter,  I am reasonably sure it will work and I have a piece of 4" PVc in the scrap pile.

I have tried repeatedly to "tap" finish but ends up with an uneven coating that IMO looks amaturish, anyone have any experiences they are willing to share?
Wishing y'all tight lines and bent wriggling rods. Happy Fishing!

Sup kdog!  When I paint spoons or blades I borrow my buddy's powder paint air gun.   Works amazing.   He got it from tj's tackle.   Only way to go for painting those items.   You will lose some powder, but best way to get a commercial quality look to them.   I'll probably break down and but one this winter as I fish blade baits more than I used to.   Other option is to airbrush them with liquid paint then overcoat them with a clear or brush some d2t.

Bucko,
Thanks for the suggestions, I have powder water but it is a PITA to use it does a good job though just takes forever to do a firetiger paint job gotta dry and cure for each color.  Tried the Powder airbrush but it wastes too much powder or my dust collector is too effective. I do not have a reclaim system but I do have a sensitive wife and she gets upset at that funny colored dust and when shes upset, I am miserable.

Clear coating them afterwards with epoxy has IMO a negative impact on action and airbrush even with acrylic clear coat does not hold up.
Something about rocks and toothy fish does not agree with acrylic finishes
Wishing y'all tight lines and bent wriggling rods. Happy Fishing!

You might try some of the rustolium universal metallic primer and paint in one... They have a few good colors I think.. Metallic pearl mist, metallic satin nickel,  etc http://www.homedepot.com/b/Rust-Oleum-Universal/N-5yc1vZayfZ12kx?NCNI-5

21xdc do you cure the rustoleum in an oven at a certain temp to bake the paint on?  Just got my blade bait mold in the mail last night and poured a few.  Gonna try to paint some tonight.
