Epoxy after Air Brushing...how soon?
« on: 02/08/15 20:31 UTC »
How soon after you have air brushed a crank bait can you use epoxy for the finish? (assuming you have heat set the Createx).

Thanks,
Andy

This is only me talking but I have painted and let it dry and then clear coated. As long as you aren't putting the epoxy on before you have dried your bait, you should be fine.  I dry mine using a heat gun (Paint).

Some guys wait day or two.  Like big said if you are heat sitting it with a hair dryer or something you can coat  right away.
I don't think d2 bites into the paint like some clear coats so wrinkles won't be a problem.
I have been using cs with good results.  Not as strong as d2 but it's super thin when it dries.   Not as shiny either but that's one thing I like about it.

I'm a CS guy now but I never ever never clear without a 24 hour dry time I heat set and everything but.... Paint "cures" even if you heat set it. Unless it justin and he needs some thing ASAP then I don't give a crap and I'll clear wet paint  :P

Do you use one coat ...or more of the CS? I think I read a post from you that you dip it? Any particular reason why dipping is better than using a brush....or are you just a dip kind of guy? :P

I use that on all my jigs...and it works great.  I'll try it on on of my cranks.

It's so thin that dipping is the way to go. I like 3 coats with 24 hours between or just when I'm in the shop thinking about.
