jelly red

The color name is sort of mis-leading in that its more pink than red. Still, its a nice color. Its a bleeder so I have added the black line to help stop it. Its a strong color too. This was a 4 ounce batch and uses 2 drops of the X2 color. There's a bit of blue hi lite and red .015 glitter in it too.

The humidity came up high today and messed with my plastic, especially the clear dip. It didn't want to shed off the excess after dipping even at 340 degrees. The Jelly Red batch wanted to foam up which is the first time I've had essential plastic pull that stunt. The colors and all turned out fine but the initial finished cook looked like the milk froth on a latte. After a reheat it settled down.

Did what? The three color?

Hand pour the chartreuse in the belly half of the mold until each cavity is not quite filled. Hand pour black over the chartreuse just to the top of that half of the mold, close, clamp and inject the top color. May as well plan on eyes because you'll want to clear coat these since de-laminating can happen.

Most of my cover dip is re-melted Mike. I have a couple bowls handy all the time that go into the microwave for about a minute, maybe less if the volume in a particular bowl is lower than 3/4 full but I'll assume the temp is right in the neighborhood of 335 degrees for good dipping. As soon as I notice the clear beginning to stick a little I re-heat for about 10 seconds.

Some people have issues with the plastic turning on them for re-heats on clear. When I am finished doing a series of dips I add stabilizer to the remaining plastic and stir it in well. That way its already integrated with the plastic when it sees the microwave on the re-melt later on.

The camers is charging right now. Tomorrow I'll get a picture of how I set up for dipping. I use lots of paper towels and have the plastic and a bowl of water side by side. The bait gets dipped, the excess is tapped off on the plastic bowl, then the baits go right into the water carefully. Splashes from dropped baits into the water are an absolute no-no. The baits get slid into the water gently.

Its not real warm here right now but the humidity is off the charts. looking out across the park land behind us the air looks blue. Very humid. This has been playing games today so I'll probably wait to fiddle with plastic until the air settles down.

Here's a peek at how I set up to dip clear coat.

Nothing is hot in the picture and the clear bowl is water. The plastic for dip has been heated maybe 20 times and is just starting to turn a little but will still appear as clear on a bait. I can get another 4 re-melts out of this cup. I use only Essential for dipping now because of its tolerance to reheating multiple times and staying much clearer than other plastics.

Keep in mind that care is of utmost of importance with water and hot plastic this close together. The dipped baits go right into the water, but you do NOT want the water to go into the plastic.
