2 color tubes

When making a two color (front and back) 4" tube are you:

1. Injecting the back color then cutting off the front...while still on the skirt mandrel...replacing it..and shooting the front. How are you cutting off the front? I used a razor blade...is there any concerns about damaging the mandrel (with small scratches)?

2. Shooting a lighter back color...then dipping the front into the darker color. Once...twice?

3. Some other way that apparently in not obvious to me!

Are you asking about making a laminate?



If so, we just use a blending block.

I don't think I would cut something off the spline, but that's just me.  If you are cutting it off the insert I would be comfortable with that as it's steel.

If you are asking about making the tube one color (or part of the tube), and / or the skirt another, I think most are dipping the second color (or in the case of the skirt, using the skirt mold).

This one was not dipped, but has the same effect / look as dipping.


This one was dipped in clear (for the eye), but could have been in any color to change the look:

Like the blue and white one.

I was dipping them last night...and it seemed to work fine. Plus I ended up with a bit thicker body which is good.

Dipping is a LOT faster!

I was injecting in watermelon/red flake...and then dipping the head in black...back to just short of skirt.
