Shipping 5 gallons of plastic

So today I received my quote on shipping a 5 gallon bucket of plastic to Ga. I believe it was $28.15... So that's $170.00 + $28.15 = $198.15.
Now if I were to Order a 2.5 gallon box of plastic (I like the boxes) that's $78.49 + $8.50 shipping = $86.99 x 2 is $173.98 total!!
Am I missing something here??? I have tried several times to call today to figure this out but keep getting hung up on after listening to that awful music or I get "this mail box is full".
Why on earth would anyone pay $24.17 More for the same product from the same company is beyond me!
I would like to cancel my order and just order 2 2.5 gallon boxes and save $24.17 with the convenience of the boxes please!

I get my plastic from BaitJunkys and their price is around $120 for 5 1 gallon jugs with shipping of around $28. Best plastic I have used! Plus there is a 15% off sale through 7/8 I think. I buy their degassed plastic since I heat in the microwave and it heats beautiful and has very few bubbles.

There is no smoke and mirrors.

Simply put, it costs us different prices to ship to different places.  We provide our discounted shipping cost in an effort to get our product to customers in the most cost effective way.  Shipping 40 plus pounds is expensive.

Forever, Do-it Customers have been used to our simple flat shipping rate.  At $8.50, we are often on the losing end of this shipping charges, but we have worked hard to keep it in place.

Nobody accused anybody of "smoke and mirrors". When a customer buys in bulk it's for the discounted price. I would have figured the bulk price should beat regular pricing all day long but the end price for folks in Georgia is $24.17 higher than the regular price. Plus the regular price plastisol come in a convenient box that's easy to work with vs the bulk of a bucket... it also greatly reduces the risk of contamination from moisture etc. Baitjunkys is a little over a hour drive from me where I could buy plastisol by the drum with no shipping cost but I choose to do business with Do-it because I'm very satisfied with their product! That being said the customer service and quality control has been lacking here lately. My last batch of plastic was extremely foamy. I've been using this plastisol for years and I've never had a problem. I never complained I just rolled with the punches. In that same order which was just weeks ago I purchased a mold that states it can be used as a tail mold for the 1.75" fry. The molds pines were sunk to deep that they are of no use to the mold. Once placed in the fry mold and shot with plastic it flashes so bad the tails curl downward almost in a "n" shape. I can shoot the 1.75" fry cut the tails and place them back into the fry mold with no problems. So it seems to be a mold issue that again I didn't complain about! For a message I'm trying not to read to much into posted on a public forum sure seems written with some sort of attitude! I would have been more than happy to discuss this whole shipping deal with anyone willing to answer the telephone! Instead I got hung up on multiple times or got a "this mailbox is full message". You guys are really dropping the ball here with me. I'm only 1 customer and understand my value to the company. I just hope others reading this sees the money they can save by double checking all the different ways of ordering products. Just because it's sold in bulk doesn't mean it's the best deal. Looking at it from a business stand point with a supply budget... the savings of not buying bulk is enough to cover 2 more bottles of colorant that you may have otherwise put off until the next order. I just wanted to make other customers or potential customers aware of this NON"smoke and mirrors"... Just good ole commonsense.

No attitude intended.  Agree that customer service issues are better handled over the phone, as it is difficult to assess attitude in print.

Sorry if you have had issues calling us.  We do have 5 phone lines to try to handle as many calls as possible, but again, sorry if we missed your call.

Shipping is a complicated deal.  We have had shipping programs in place for a long time that customers are used to.  When we added bulk plastic, there was no way for it to fit in our old shipping model.  That is why we quote it.  We felt that we could fit 2.5 gallons or 20 pounds into our flat rate shipping program ($8.50).  When you hit 5 gallons or 40 pounds, it becomes a major losing proposition for us. 

Some parts of the US it is less expensive to buy in a 5 gallon bucket.  Some places it might be less to make individual orders of 2.5 gallons that fit under our flat rates shipping.  The shipping costs are a critical expense of our business and it is something we look at on annual basis.

Running a business isn't easy.  Watching the bottom line and keeping everyone happy is a tough job and some times stuff falls through the cracks.  When it does the lines of communication have to be kept open so that problems can be recognized and fixed.  I think that just happened between Do-It and catchem.  Kudos to you both. 

Now, in an effort to keep the peace by changing the subject....  I'm going in the hospital Monday morning for open heart surgery.  It seems my aortic valve is crapping out and has to be replaced with a bovine (Tom...that's a cow.) valve.  It's supposed to last as long as I've got.  I'll be hospitalized for 5-7 days and laid up (ain't gonna happen) for 1-3months.  The last 6 weeks or so have been pretty busy so I'm pleased to get this over.  For those of you who pray...Thanks.  For those of you that don't...LEARN.  You'll be a happier person.
