Plastic problem

Anyone know what causes this and how to prevent it?

it is a venting problem. I had the same problem with that mold. Cut a small vent at the top of the mold, it solved my problem

Try different clamp positions and how hard that you clamp. The molds I have like that don't do that.

How hot was the plastic? Are you using a proper thermometer so you know the plastic is hot enough to inject? The mold appears to be well vented and adding another simple vent just below the gate on each cavity might help but this really looks like plastic that's too cool and a cold mold.

Another thought here. How big are those twisters? Length? If that injection port is 5/8" those baits have to be running about 4" each and a 4 ounce injector may not offer enough plastic to finish the job if it isn't filled completely.  You may need a large injector to keep a steady flow of hot plastic available to fill those cavities.

My first guess is right in line with Tom's thoughts, that the plastic is hardening before completely filling the cavities... even if you are at 350, you may want to bump the temp for the first couple of shots until the mold starts to get warm (which will then prevent further premature solidification).

This looks like a tempt issue, when looking at the picture the plastic looks to be cooling before it's getting in the mold. As with any of our products we will be more then happy to help you out with this issue. Give me a call tomorrow at 319-984-6055 and I will help you out.

Ya really given us limited info other than a pic and ask what is wrong.  It is either a temp or ventilation problem. Don't know what your temps are but I'd shoot around 340 and see what happens. If a vent problem a simple slice here or there with a razor blade will fix this. I personally think it could use some more ventilation. Clamp pressure can help a mold that is poorly vented.

it's not a temperature problem, look where the last vent is on the mold is.  The air has to go toward the spruce, and that were the problem is.  The last vent is 3/4 inch away.

It can definitely use more vents.  Reminds me of my 2.5" carrot but not as severe.  Only vents on it are on on side of mold and at the tip of the tail. I added more vents and now I get complete shoots. I think my 1.75" carrot has no vents but I don't have a problem with it as I use it as a tail mold and only shoot one color into the mold as well as it's a tiny bait.  Probably what was wrong with my Mo Magic molds too.  They frustrated me so much I got rid of them.   Air has to escape somewhere.
