E-Core
« on: 08/28/17 19:18 UTC »
Trying this new e-core idea...bought some brass from Hobby Lobby.  I cut them a little bigger than my bodies I want to core.  I have them centered before clamping but they keep moving off center when I shoot them. Any suggestions?  See pics

Lay the mold flat on the other side. In the picture you have the back side of the mold with the rods rolling around over the cavity. Have the other side of the mold [the side that has the cavities for the belly and tail] on your bench facing up, lay in the rods and center them, carefully close the mold and clamp it down to the bench top and inject it from the side. Be sure to hold pressure and the injector in the port for about 30 seconds. After removing the rods from the initial injection you can stand the mold on its side as per usual to inject the second color.

Thanks Ctom...I will get that a try.

I would suggest cutting your rods the full length that your mold cavities will hold... (generally) this will center the rod and hold it in a solid position when injecting, regardless of position.  I would also note that the second injection can be fussy with smaller diameter rods, if you do not keep your mold(s) warm; therefore, you may want to use a larger diameter rod if you are not getting full cores.
