Can i use PoP if?
« on: 11/21/17 13:26 UTC »
Can I use a PoP mold if I am planning on using clay to make my master? I feel like it would adhere to it to much and would need to go RTV, or am I wrong?

I'm just guessing here but will say you're probably better off with soft plastic as a model. Modeling clay is going to be pretty soft to start with and will absorb moisture from the POP. If the clay has been baked or hardened it will afford zero "give" when removing it from the plaster.

I don't have any soft plastics of the mold I'm trying to create. Thus the problem.

POP is cheap so go ahead and give it a try. I guess I'd use a soft setting clay to facilitate removing without chipping or cracking the pop.

For Pop molds of simple baits without a lot of detail I use sculpy clay to make masters but I leave the clay green (unbaked). If you chill the sculpy clay it will firm up to help it hold its shape for molding.
Something else I use to make masters for worms is Silly Putty. These started as Silly Putty masters  http://custombaits.com/index.php?topic=10383.0
