Question about the Pearl Powder
« on: 01/31/12 12:02 UTC »
Can anyone give me more information about the pearl powder product?

Does it just give a solid pearl color?

What is the difference between the liquid color and powder.

Thanks in advance for the info.

There are lots of different colors of Pearls (Mica).  In the powder form we currently only carry Pearl.  In the liquid we have Copperhead, Brown Mayfly, Green, Blue, Pearl, Gold, Silver...

The powder form is just that, only the powder.  A little goes a long way.

The liquid form has pearl powder (mica) and colorant in it to get a specific effect.

Correct me if I am wrong here ( Jason ) -  But you can think of the pearl powder as a concentrated version of the liquid.  The powder is very fine; so special care needs to be taken when opening and dipping for use.  I use 1/8th tsp of White Pearl powder per 2 oz. of plastic; which most people say is too much; to yield the pearl color on the belly of the 3.5 Inch carrot laminate I posted the other day. ( nothing else; just the pearl powder ).  At this rate it is pretty opaque just by itself.  When blended into other colors it will overpower them unless used in much smaller increments.  You can use white coloring and add much less pearl to get close to the same result; but I really like how this looks in the sunlight.

It seems to me....it's a lot easier...and safer... to use the Pearl colors that CCM sells. They make a very nice effect...without the danger of Pearl Powder Lung Disease!

I find myself using much less of the CCM liquid pearls vs. pearl powder to arrive at the same effect.  ...just my experience.  ...(side note...I fished some 3.5 swim shads in white pearlescent today in some stained water....Those things look sweet moving through the water!)

Pearls tend to color the entire color of the bait, where as Hilites affect the skin of the bait.

A white pearl underside is very hard to beat for any minnow bait in my opinion.
