UnBeknownst To Me...You?
« on: 02/01/12 18:51 UTC »
We use the Microwave to heat and reheat plastic.  Occasionally we run into microbubbles, sometimes major bubbles, or even the dreaded Foam Monster.  There are many sources for moisture, just about all of which are mentioned here at the CCM Forum.  I believe I may have discovered another source of moisture.  The Microwave, itself.

Is there anything else heated in the Microwave You're using to heat plastic?  If so, nearly every food (and of course every beverage) is loaded with moisture that turns to vapor in the microwave, almost 100% of the time.  That moisture will sit in the microwave and get reheated again and again...then comes the Tackle Guy with a cup of plastic and probably a grin...until that moisture gets vaporized.

Just a thought, Bro's!!!

Good point.  I keep my microwave outside under a covered patio.  Never thought of it but probably a good idea to heat an empty pyrex cup for 20 seconds and bake off some that moisture.

Dude... If you are cooking food in the same microwave you are cooking plastic in, you are one crazy guy!!!!!  :o  :o  :o

The same scenario is in reverse. The smoke from your plastic makes vapors that reamin in your nuker. That will contaminate any food you cook!

Flip side is you might be able to tell us all about the good and bad taste of plastic so we can apply it to fishing... J/K

Be careful on this!!!

I'm partial to Grilled Chicken flavored 3" Skinny Carrots with Smart Balance Tails, with a side of Shad Oil and Broccoli.

As all this has turned out, maybe this Thread should be in "Safety Do's & Dont's", or in the new "Dumb and Dumber" Category for moves like this one.  :-[

I'm glad you mentioned the griddle...Is it ok for me to place my molds on the griddle to warm them up. My griddle (i don't use it for food anymore) has a temperature control on it but I wanted to make sure it was a good idea before I did it.

Thanks.

From my understanding, if the molds get too hot, or heated too quickly, they can warp. With that said, HEAT AT YOUR OWN RISK..
If it's less than 70 degrees in my garage, I like to turn my griddle to 200-250 when heating my injector/molds.

I've also read, in several Threads, that preheating Your molds by means other than Injecting can, over time, lead to pitting of the Aluminum Mold Surface.

I may just stay on the safe side and inject it to get it warm. Thanks for the info.

Jason or anyone know alot about this effect? I use a griddle to heat one of my molds bc that is the only way i can get it to shoot correctly right away.

When u have 15 molds and you need to shoot them twice just to get it shooting correctly its a waste of alot of time and $$$ in plastic.. thats why i use a griddle.. nothing bad has happened to them YET and been doing it for over a yr... JW if it is bad for the molds?

Thanks for any help
