Neko rig crawfish
« on: 03/24/18 16:27 UTC »
Just heard from some friends who are rigging a plastic craw "Neko Style" to make the craw stand up on the bottom. Fishing it with spinning rod for bedding bass. Anyone tried this before? What do you think about it? Thinking about trying it for walleye also.

That would be great Gary the stand position of the craw is a natural stance and would definitely would trigger anything to eat.
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN

I would rather use a Football jig.
Greater hook choice.

I saw this rigging for the first time last year. Some local bass guys were tossing craws strung up like this and they swore by the presentation. If memory serves me right they were inserting a nail weight at the tail to hold it down and a rubber collar behind the point where the claws came out of the body got a hook slipped under it. They had a half dozen of the craws rigged and ready to just have a hook put to them....not certain how they got the rubber band in place. I saw a craw rigged at the launch in their boat and asked about it so they showed me how and why it was rigged like that. We saw them a while later that morning and watched as one put a net under a bass taken on the get-up.

You use a neko rubber ( which is a round "O") Slip the "O" on the end of a needle nose pliers and open it up to pull the craw tail through. This way the craw will last for several fish.

The two guys I bumped into were using commercial package craws. The Icraw should really work well.

I have used the ICraw on a shaky head all last year. It is one of my go to lures over a six inch worm. I haven't tried it on a Neko rig yet but don't really see much difference. But I'll try it.

My main complaint with the Neko is that even when using an o-ring and gluing in the weight, the rig just doesn't last as long as other methods when the bass comes to the air to shake.  And, depending on angle of presentation, your craw may tip backwards in an unnatural way as you work it (not that bass are the smartest creature on the planet).  Having said that, let me also say that that I know the effectiveness of a shaky rigged craw for bedding bass (which also stands up for the same general presentation)... it is a fish catcher!  I'm sure you'll catch plenty on the Neko, but if re-rigging gets to you, you may want to try a shaky.
