Ctom’s recent culinary posts got me thinking about pepperoni rolls and their availability in other states. I am referring to beard dough that is stuffed with either sliced, stick, or ground pepperoni with or without cheese and then baked to a golden brown.
The story I heard growing up was that they originated in Fairmont, WV when the coal miners’ wives started making them as an alternative in the miners’ lunches. These are a staple in every WV grocery and convenient store still today. I have yet to find any traveling to and from the beach in NC.
So, who out there knows what I’m talking about and what state are you in?
