Here is a quick (and cheap) way to make eyes for jigs. It works well on jigs that can have shallow eye sockets. I use it a lot for jigs that I don't often make a certain size and don't want to order a bunch of eyes for.
I use "puff paint" aka "t-shirt paint" from Walmart. The dispensers have a good tip for filling in the eyes and putting a small dot of black for the pupil. After drying for an hour I smash the eye flat with my thumbnail.
When I epoxy in the weed guard I sometimes cover they eye in epoxy but it's not really necessary. Once dry, the paint holds like grim death and it is waterproof (that's why they use it for t-shirt paint!).
Also great for yellow or red eyes!
