A little get-away....
« on: 06/15/18 20:02 UTC »
Carole and I took a few days to camp and stayed in a wonderful Iowa Van Buren county park on Sugema Lake just north of the Missouri border. We left Tuesday morning and managed a stop at the Do-It empire in Denver Iowa to say "HI" to all the friends there and then rifled right on down to heaven. The trip was also my fireworks run and yes, I got a few.

The park was empty when we got there, except for the park hosts. We had no trouble finding the prime site and went right to work getting settled in. In addition to the boomers we made a stop in Cantril at the Dutchman's Market, an Amish/Mennonite run venture that deals in bulk goodies and we did not leave with empty hands. We've been to this market on several occasions and always it is the same thing....busy.  Crazy busy What was intended to be a half hour stop turned into an hour and a half.....again. lol Honestly it would take a person three hours to really check things out. Unreal.

As usual, our time there was too short and we returned home to heat, but last night we found ourselves on the nice park seat over-looking the lake and watching deer in the meadow across the lake. What peace. What a way to end a short vacation.

Very nice trip, but you spent money on fireworks that could have been spent on fishing tackle? LOL. Never enjoyed fireworks. Our lake puts on a dissplay every year. The grandkids comes down and my wife takes them out on the patoon to watch.....I usually just go to bed!! Now the amish markets I love, we have a lot of them here in northern Indiana, those ladys know how to cook! Always come home with a car load of goodies.

More locally I buy some breads and cakes from the Amish ladies. I picked up a loaf of very fresh wheat bread from an Amish woman  near an estate sale about twenty miles from home that never made it past the front seat. We just tore off chunks and savored it. I would have given anything for ten pounds of the whole wheat flour she used in it.
