Carole and I have been vacationing in the deep south and enjoying it LOTS. We left on the 31st of January and flew to Dallas/Fort Worth, then on to Pensacola, Florida where we stayed right on Esmabia Bay. We have read so much about the Scenic Gulfshore Highway system that we finally bit the bullet and made the trip. Hawaii was on the slate but the travel costs were ridiculous and we had vouchers from the airline for 200 dollars each if we stayed state-side, so the math worked much better here.
Thew weather was great, especially for a northern boy with freckled hide and a bald head.....partly cloudy with daytime highs right near 70 degrees. Rain was forcast every single day we were there, but we saw rain one of the days and full sun on a couple other days so I guess the weather forcasters down there are about as talented as they are up here. We had a very pleasant 8 days and I ate shrimp 6 of those days. The seafood was my downfall. I'd buy a couple pounds of shrimp a day, clean them up, throw them in the microwave in the motel room for three minutes and called it a snack while relaxing in the evening.....sort of a big shrimp cocktail. Home now, I a going thru withdrawal.
Flights were all great, and we drove over 1000 miles in total along some of the prettiest beaches I have seen outside of Hawii and watching those boys catching pompano and sharks while seeing the porpoises swim by way something else. I don't fish when we travel....its time to spend with Carole and I let her pretty much set the itinerary. But home now I have the itch developing again. Good to be home again no matter how nice the beaches are.
