Finished off some free style jigs
« on: 11/23/18 19:20 UTC »
Just got the eyes in to add the finishing touches.I fitted them with 4/0 owner hooks then clear coated the eyes in. I will be throwing my 4" hand pour swimbait on these specifically

I've been using a bunch of those freestyle jigs in 3/16 with a 2/0 hook. I'm really liking that jig. Looks great by the way.

they def did good on this mold. I have some smaller 3/0 but they were a touch too short. Thanks!

Nice jig. I just got that mold. Haven't had a chance to play with it yet. But I like the looks of it.

You like it Lamar.

Ya know Dob, there are times while fishing crappies that a plain, un-painted head just helps a jig turn the corner on a bite. I've seen it with walleyes and sauger as well....perhaps moreso in the cold waters of winter below the dams on the Mississippi.

On personal jigs I don't add eyes on most jigs but this Freestyle I think merits the eyes and as big as one can poke in the pocket.

I've got a handful in the work room that I plan to hit with the airbrush today sometime to see how they take to it.

What do you guys think is the best hook for this jig? I know "The Little Nasties" will work for 3/0, 4/0, but I can't find the 5/0 any place for the bigger sizes.

I'm casting these MG. https://store.do-itmolds.com/Mustad-Hooks_c_189-2.html

I like the Nastys in small heads, not so much in larger heads although I have done it. The ones linked are very good hooks and the black nickel is a better finish than the bronze.

thanks everyone. I am glad Do it came out with this mold. its not beefy and its not super finesse. I opted for the minnow tri color eyes since theyre what i already use just smaller. I will probably limit them to spinning gear also which isnt a problem when throwing at offshore non snaggy structure

That is really nice!!! What size? The 2/0 is the biggest I used for the 3/16oz but I haven't had chance to do any other sides yet.

Im using 4/0 owners in both the 3/16&5/16 sizes to fit a specific bait

That's one of the great aspects of so many of the Do-It molds that have a wide range of use....hook size flexibility with minimal or no modification.

agreed. some need a longer shank others a shorter shank. as long as the eye is oriented the same its plug and play
