Ready for action....
« on: 11/24/18 16:31 UTC »
I had some time today to get the airbrush out and tinker with the Freestyles I had cast but un-finished. I knew powder coat covered well but hadn't done any acrylic on the heads yet and wanted to give it a go. Mission accomplished and these guys are super ready for action.

This head design and the Ripper series of plastics are, in my opinion, the two single biggest things Do-It has developed and the two pair up wicked nice. I'm not much for eyes on jigs heads for my own use but these heads I think will be wearing them fairly regular. If things go as I hope tomorrow these will be soaking in the Mississippi River for a while and they'll be accompanied by some rippers.

Using the Createx Pearlized and transparent regular colors with a little help from a couple of the fluorescent colors the paint goes on clean without runs and settles right down. A little heat set and the next color takes place. The heads paint fairly fast....faster than the ultra style heads. The head is a keeper for sure. Now if the plans and weather hold together.

Those are really nice Tom!!! I used a 2/0 on the smaller 3/16oz head and matched it up with the 3.5" ripper you made for me. I will agree that the Freestyle jig seems to really compliment the Ripper but I also like using a 1/0 hook in the 3/16oz size and tying hair on it, it makes a great "hoss fly".

Mike....

I had the van packed but didn't head out. We had major league wind here by 630 this morning s I took a pass.  We haven't had the crap Iowa is getting but there has been drizzle off and on all day. Wind, maybe wet and 28 degrees didn't sound like fun.
