The warm temps we have had here regionally the last few weeks have left our interior rivers running cold clear and open for business.  It's not often in our part of the world that a guy gets to pitch jigs for walleyes in the middle of January just a short drive from home so when you get the chance you jump in a boat and go hunting for walters. Those warm days that bring the water temps up a couple of degrees really get them fired up.  Florida Grape with a chartreuse worm dipped tail has been a front-runner by far. Firecracker chartreuse tail have also put some some dandies in the boat the last couple of weeks in both a ringworm and 3.5" Ripper. By the looks of it old man winter is knocking on our door and we'll be back in the cooler for awhile.  Time to set the long rods down to cool off and do some walking on water. Spring will be here before we know it.

  Nice catch. You're killing me. That's the way I've been make them as of late. It's much easier to inject the bait and then dip the tail over inject cut and inject again.

Sweet deal!! The lake by work had the whole shore line open 4’ out from shore when it was warm but next week is going to be in the teens and single digits during the days and - over night all week.

Looks like a football head in the mouth... were you getting them dragging?

It does appear to be a football head the way it's oriented in the mouth but it's actually a 1/16th oz. Midwest Finesse I modded to accommodate a 3/0 hook.  While I do like dragging in the winter, I can't get away with it much on these shallower rivers as they are clean and the fish are pretty boat shy.  I've strictly been pitching jigs. In 32-35 degree water everything has to be worked slow and in a situation where you are facing low flow and shallow water a light jig gives you a nice slow sweep into the strike zone and is often times needed to get bit.

Wow, 1/16th... too much current for going that light here (unless it maybe was a hair jig).
