Anytime we get a winter that holds on into March it can make for some great late season ice fishing for trophy panfish.
The sun is getting stronger daily and the fish are staging in the places where the sun warms the water up the quickest, points, shallow flats etc. I'd expect to see these fish slide shallower up into the mud over the next couple weeks. The bugs seem to hatch the best out of these spots this time of year, and a combination of their binge eating and their eggs developing have their prego bellies ready to pop.
Some of the best perch fishing of the year happens in March. Nothing fancy here, a 4mm tungsten jig and wax wiggler poured up in blue & violet pearl with a drop of black is a staple of mine this time of year.
