Designing A Hook Wrangler

While pouring some jigs the other day I grew aggravated having to dig out groups of hooks in a tangled pile and loading the mold. Decided to work on something to fix that. Yes I could fashion up something like a piece of all thread or a magnet strip but why not make it hard. Threw some things together in a CAD program and fired up the 3D printer. Here is the prototype. Not sure what direction I will go in from here but it’s a start to be able to grab the number of hooks needed per pour.

You better get a patent on that Fishermanbt. Big hook makers will steal that idea and begin packaging hooks that way. That's awesome.

That looks slick. I still struggle with hooks in finger tips as I try to untangle a pile. It seems that these new sickle hooks in black nickel have much, much sharper points than hooks used to have. It takes very little to really sink one into live meat....experience here. lol

How many hooks will that rig hold?

I stacked 15 #1 hooks in this one. Thinking I will expand it to hold 30 or so. Also got a few other tweaks and designs I’m pondering.

Great idea Fishermanbt 8) have you ever tried to 3d print your own jerk bait’s or square bills? It’s so cool how you can prototype/make things so quick these days if you have the equipment to do so. Now if you could come up with away to organize and pick up wire keepers.

Ooohhhh!  That sounds challenging. I would really like to make something like what is used by RCBS to pick up primers when reloading ammo so you don’t touch them.

  Not to be the bad guys here and I think it's a cool idea but in order to stack the hooks in the holder one has to untangle them first. So either way you untangle hooks. But I also see that once you get set up you could pour faster.

Lamar, you are right you gotta sort them anyway. I was just looking for an easy and compact way to dispense what’s needed when loading a mold. Free up some bench real estate while keeping things organized.

Here is a working prototype. I made a slider in the back and embedded a magnet to get the hooks to stand up. Now I just pick off what I need. Yes, I take simple easy and make things dumb hard.
