Fall Rate
« on: 07/04/19 10:09 UTC »
Hey Guys,

New here and to making my own Senkos.
I'd like to achieve a slightly faster fall rate.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,

-BB211

Welcome BB-

Two points to consider: might you want different sink rates with different baits?... and how much "recycling" do you plan to do with your baits?

I use weighted hooks to vary my sink rates because sometimes I want them faster and sometimes I want them slower, but I also want continuity when I'm remelting (which I do a lot of), so I don't want to try and remember what batches had what additive when I'm recycling my baits... just my preference.

Hey ef,

Both recycling and new, if new I'm pretty anal and write everything down.

Agreed on fall rates with different baits.

I fish FL waters, Lake O a lot.  I also live on a 200 mile canal system with 7 small lakes
I fish Senko's, Flukes, and Trick worms with No Weight.
4/0 Gam EWC or straight shanks, or #1 Circle hook, just depending on situation.

I typically use a 1/16oz head, but at times I go as light as a plain octo hook or as heavy as 1/4oz head... with your reply I don't think you'll have any trouble putting it all together, so have fun while making 'em.

Thanks 21,

Post some finished pics. Not all media is the same. Some is an abrasive and not round beads. Read the descriptions in the links I posted. Beads are better for your injectors.

This hog weighed 10.6 pounds.
One of the best tourneys on Lake O.  25.9 pound bag.

Ok guys,

Just messing around.  All have been tank tested in my pool.
I fished 3 colors this morning.
I always use red hooks, so I made a few with red heads (not tails).
Caught a 1 pounder on the one I have a hook in and another small one on that violet one (which I made for my wife, lol)
I use Berkley 20 pound Test X9 Green Braid with a 2 foot Berkley 12 pound Test clear fluorocarbon leader.

Having fun!

I like this idea as it would give a pseudo mud puppy look.

Thanks.

I'm a big believer in red hooks.  I swear I get more bites with them.

Another thing I do that I think helps with Top Water Baits is to switch the front hook
to a feathered treble hook.  More bites than a feathered back treble...….. I think lol

Interesting... does this seem to happen more for you on clear water vice stained water, the reversed situation, or same in both settings?
