New Colorant - Need Help
« on: 02/27/12 11:30 UTC »
This is just a heads up for those who are interested.  We are going to run a trial on a new type of colorant / pigment.  Just like with our plastic, we went outside the normal sources and set a standard quite a bit higher than most of us are use to.  The results of our internal testing have been extremely impressive and we are ready to expand the testing to get your feedback.

What's different about the colorant?  It is much more concentrated than most.  In our recipes we are finding we need to use anywhere from a half to one third as much colorant.  The other big difference is settling.  Just like with our plastic, we didn't want the pigment to settle either.  There is little to no settling (we are still working on the florescents -  :-\).  What about cost?  We are still working through some of the details, but it looks like we will be able to provide it for approximately the same price - in essence you will get at least twice the colorant power for approximately the same price.

So what's next?  We are going to start with Green Pumpkin for our trial.  We will have it out on the site in the next week.  Anyone interested in trying it and providing feedback will be greatly rewarded with a hearty thank you, some super concentrated colorant, and a new Green Pumpkin to add to your library of colors!

Thanks,

Jason

The colorant I use the most is watermelon. I currently use Bears, it's the closet thing I get that I can make a darn close copy of Z's. That's the colorant I want from CCM!I would be happy to give feedback when and if it comes around.

I used the x2 today.  It was great no separation and it only took nine drops to get what i wanted in a cup of plastic.  I sit it in the window when it came Friday and didn't use it until Saturday afternoon and seen no separation.  I did shake it but just a little for good measure.

I have posted pic of the baits in the gallery. under cook book.     Will update more as i use it.

I made up some baby bass with the top being the watermelon X2 with the new 4.5" Swim shad and I'm really impressed with the depth of the color.

In 3/4 cup I used 12 drops (I normally use 25-30) and it came out a very, very nice "watermelon green" (not watermelon brown) exactly the color I would like to have.

I then hand poured some 3.85" freedom fries with a little bit of CCM Copper flake (.040) and boy oh boy do those things look like.....someone else made them!!!

I'll try to get a good color match photo tomorrow.

I got to try the 2X Green Pumpkin and must say that I am impressed! Along with using less drops(1/2 fewer) the color has a more opaque look to it without having to add salt or a drop or 2 of white. I really like this for baits that have real thin appendages so that they will show up easier. The color is truer, or more intense if that make since, the Green is great and the yellow/brown color is nice and dull, not a bright look. This is not going to replace the original Green Pumpkin, I do like the translucent properties of it. But I am going to have fun working up new recipes!! I see see this as really being helpful in two color baits.
Do I recommend this, YES!! I am going to get the Watermelon next and I would love to see the Brown Pumpkin, Red Shad, Black, Blue Fleck, Purple and Chartruse in this also.

I made up nearly 100 baits this weekend....some big ones too...and it didn't even put a dent in the bottle! This stuff really is 2x ...maybe even 3x .... definitely use less than 1/2 as much.

The color is perfect for watermelon. Stays suspended in hot plastic and gives you a really smooth color. Excellent color depth (even my wife noticed a difference between these baits as some other watermelon baits).

When it came in the mail it has zero separation...and the my order with some other colorants we clearly separated.

Like CCM plastic ...rethinking how to make it has really paid off with a superior product.
