Opening day rifle season in WV
« on: 11/25/19 08:32 UTC »
I was limited to my deer stand selection this year because of my confounded knee surgery but I still had a good set up. At daylight this guy came out checking on the doe feeding around. After debating with myself for a good 5 minutes on letting him walk I squeezed the trigger off and he fell. No tracking, no dragging (or rather getting someone to help retrieve him). My knee is letting me know that I still over did it. Ice pack and elevation here I come

Thanks everyone.

Doctor appointment today. He said everything except the swelling looks good. He asked if I was up for him taking some fluid off my knee. That was quite the experience. With a needle I swear could of held enough plastic to fill the big Ripper swim bait he pulled 20 cc of nasty fluid out of my knee. Instant relief and a tad bit more range of motion.

Nice Buck congrats.  Still debating on whether im going this year or not our Deer population has really thinned out  here in southern Ohio and the coyotes aren't helping matters.

I’m hearing and reading numerous cases of small pockets of dead deer being found in parts of the state and a few deer that have been harvested having nasty stuff in them. Unsure if the latter was from injuries sustained from vehicle strikes, bow wounds or disease. Not good though. I know the eastern panhandle is still attempting to contain chronic wasting disease.
From what I can tell thus far I suspect the harvest numbers will be down this year.

CWD is a nasty way to crush the deer herd... I was hoping we would hear more about the bacterial discovery and a potential cure by now.
