Hair Jig Storage?

 How do you guys like to store your hair/marabou jigs.

I usually let hair jigs sit out on the open floor in a corner to help dry the hair out. When I get home I finish drying the jig in a dry room, like a laundry or furnace room where the air tends to be the driest. They go into a zip lock as soon as they are dry. I've had bucktails last as long as six or seven years doing it this way...long after the paint has fallen off the heads.

Putting a wet or damp bucktail in a tackle box or tray that gets sealed up is simply asking for problems with everything else in there getting rusted along with the jig. Marabou is treated the same as the bucktail. Ziplocks are cheap and keep the hair/feather straight and nice while preventing them from tangling with one another. A day's worth of bucktails or marabous will fit in a quart sized freezer zip lock for the boat.

Stored in tackle box trays (categorized by size and color)... and similar to tom, wet bucktails get hung on rod holders or lure caddy until dry.

I have holes drilled the lip of a 5 gal pale that hold tackle for the day. But most of the time the hair jigs stay on the rod and dry.

I have one of those Gruv boxes on my list for my walleye heads. Just plain heads, no hair or feather.

Here's a picture of the inside of one of my small-jig boxes that works very well. The box is made by Rose Creek and was marketed as an ice fishing jig box. I got five of these from the company owner back when I was on the ice, but use them for all of my crappie and sunfish jigs now. Shown here are some 1/32 and 1/24 ounce heads. The box needs filling again. These boxes are great for small heads, holding them tight enough I can drop a box and none will come free and drop out of its slot. This box is 3 1/2"X6"X1 1/4" and holds 120 heads. I can't stand having heads loose in a compartment rattling around and getting all beat up.

Has anyone tried the Lure Lock boxes?  The bottom of the box's tak holds a bait in place firmly, no more tangled hooks. I have a few and really like them for storing certain tackle.  I ordered a few of their thin boxes with taklogic for bladebaits, should be getting those next week. 

They also have a new 4 in 1 deep box with taklogic.  I think one could easily fashion some internal dividers into one of these with foam cut to the right length and depth.  Would make for a really nice hair box.  Might do some experimenting with that with some of my bucktails.

Most of my tackle is simple: jigs, spinners and some blades along with casting lures. And plastics. Spinners and blades get a zip lock so they aren't always tangled. I have regular Plano tackle trays/lids for my casting lures. I do have several large bucktails I use for jigging Lakers and each of those gets a good dry job and then goes into its own zip lock.

We have a dehumidifier running in the laundry/furnace room year round and when I fish in any weather I lay out everything I took in there to help dry it faster. I absolutely hate rusty jigs and tackle.

I was using streamer boxes until I found that video in 2015. Since then I've made a bunch of 3700 size Plano boxes into hair jig storage boxes. I can tell you they work really well, I have a couple for bucktail jigs, a couple for rabbit, a couple for marabou, and then a couple of "assorted" boxes that hold other jigs made from different materials. I wish I was clever enough to have thought of that idea because it would have made my hair jig storage so much easier in years past but all is good now.

Will the boxes you guys are referring to hold and handle a couple dozen of these? They're about 5" long and have 5/0 hooks in the 1.5 ounce heads.

Always let hair jigs dry before putting away.  I use 4 mil zip bags, or big straws and slide the jig into it.  I'll try and post a pic later.
