Head to Head Fishing Tournament
« on: 03/24/20 11:35 UTC »
Watching it on fb live right now, they are on the fox River in Wisconsin right now.

Similar to MLF format but this round is walleyes. 16 anglers 8 anglers each round. It’s bracket style so you just have to beat the guy you are against.

Pretty typical spring river bite, blade jigs, hair jigs, slab raps, dubuque rigs, moxies.

No live bait allowed in the tournament.

Lot of fun to sit and watch and learn from these guys.

Look it up!

30 pound bags each round so far and some guys hitting 0.

What’s also really cool is seeing Isaac lakisch wearing all do it mold apparel. Huge bag yesterday and another good one.

Lakich has some ground to make up in the final hours of the morning.  Bracket/Match style fishing is a fun format. Interesting, both remaining anglers in the Championship round are on a blade bite.

Go to fb and search h2h fishing and click the live video. Isaac has a 19 pound deficit to make up in 2.5 hours.

Mr. Lakich primarily fishes handmade baits and I am sure his blades are no exception. We will see what information he wants to share after this is wrapped up, and I will post it on this thread when I learn more.

Isaac is pretty well known for incorporating Bass techniques while targeting Walleye. Combine that with this head to head format and he's a lot of fun to watch! Keep an eye on this guy throughout this tournament season.  8)

Viper custom tackle blade baits has been a popular lure for him. After the tournament he’s doing a giveaway for who can name it.

Hey Guys Isaac Lakich here! I was actually one of the anglers that was competing in the championship round! I figured I would give you some insight on how I got to the final round and what its like fishing in a Head 2 Head tournament!

First off preparation in any tournament is definitely a major key to finding success. Making sure that you check all you knots before you start and that your drag is properly set would be the first place I begin. Organization is very important as well.

The next area I focus on is bait selection. In this tournament and with the water temperatures around 40 degrees I began by locating fish with blade baits and soft plastics. Blades I custom pour using the Do-It molds and then have painted by Viper Custom Tackle. For my soft plastics I run those on the Tear Drop jig-head also poured using a Do-it mold.

When it comes to how to work a bait during the spring for lethargic pre-spawn walleye the key is SLOW! Don't over work the presentation make sure to use slow tactics weather its lift and drop or a slow drag.
Experimentation is key to figuring out what walleyes want and often times it will change through the day as the water warms up.

With this particular format of tournament I found that persistence and a never stop attitude was key. Capitalizing on the few bites I was getting was necessary to advance to the next round.

Mentally this was the most challenging tournament I have ever fished. At the same time it was the most fun and exciting as you didn't know what would happen next. With the level of competition you were never confident that you had it in the bag no matter what kind of lead you had!

I had the time of my life fishing the Head 2 Head series and I hope that you had as much fun watching as I did fishing! Make sure to follow all the following companies on social media to stay up to date on all the best tactics and bites!
