Re-melt Session (Deep Fryer Style)
« on: 05/05/20 09:54 UTC »
What up guys!
I am about to attempt the baiting make session with the deep fryer.  This is what I am thinking and please chime in and let me know your thoughts or better ways I can approach this….
First, I am going to start the fryer and heat up to like 100 -150 degrees and slowly add the old plastic.  The fryer I would assume gets hot fast. Think I will just turn up the heat every 2-3 min. I think I want to SLOWLY heat this plastic up.  I will be using heat stabilizer too.  Once the fryer has heated to 350 (let it sit at that temp for a 1 min or so) then turn it down to like 340 and began shooting.  While shooting the plastic I think I want to leave the temp at 340 or around there until I finish it all up in the fryer.

* I don’t want to scorch the plastic.  The plastic will more than likely be sitting in the fryer for an hour or so while I continuously shoot.

Any thoughts, methods, or anything that I should do to approach this?

I want to know what fryer you bought, How much it cost and how good it keeps the temps accurate and consistent.

I think I'd hold the plastic at 315 - 320 or so as opposed to 340.  If all you're using is already cooked plastic, you don't need to take it to 350.

Okay, when I do the re-melt I will keep it at or around 325
But if I am adding uncooked I will get it too 350 then turn it down to 325 and shoot

My thinking is to heat the raw plastisol to the 350 then add the remelting pieces. A tip that DennyWelch was to chunk the remelt pieces as small as possible, so it can be mixed easier, and so it will melt faster.

Okay, that does make more sense to add the raw plastic first then the remelt.
Yeah, I will have the remelt in little pieces to have it melt faster.
Thanks..

Johnny, those old fashioned hand crank meat grinders with a coarse blade will make short work of getting small pieces to remelt and they can be found at garage/rummage sales and thrift stores pretty darned cheap.

Johnny, just wondering if you had a chance to use the deep fryer to melt or cook some plastic? Curious if it worked alright for you.

Yeah I did.  It worked pretty well. The deep fryer was a good size to put the gun in and draw from.  But the next time I do it, I will make sure I have a lot of re-melt to shoot.
